ACOUSTIC OPEN MIC NIGHT in STAMFORD CONNECTICUT - How it got started!
at LONG RIDGE TAVERN HOW IT ALL STARTED OUT!
an initiative of my voice students Shelly, Jessy and Sue. One Thursday evening I went to the Long Ridge Tavern with my fine voice students, Shelly, Sue and Jessy.
As we shared tea and coffee, Shelly had a sudden inspiration and asked the owner of the Tavern if we could have an Open Mic there, once a month on a Thursday evening and she told the owner that I could host it! My three students joined forces to make this happen, I agreed to do the hosting and they agreed to prepare to perform at the first (and many subsequent) performances.
And in this manner it came to pass that the first Open Mic was held in April 2009 and continued to take place during 2009 and 2010.
I had the task and joy of hosting the Open Mic and connecting and inviting artist, family and friends to participate - my students performed several times, and a number of musicians were very supportive in playing music, with their duos, trios, bands, and with others. I was also able to facilitate some drum circle playing, and even my children students came over a few times and delighted the audience!
My gratitude goes to my students who came up with the idea, to all supporting musicians, to family and friends who were endlessly there to create a fun atmosphere.

I remember the first Open Mic:
Turns out we had a great crowd! The mood was really fun and supportive, my students sang, songwriter Andy played his original songs, Randy Brody soloed on the Hang Drum, Rupert brought the house down with 'King of the Road', Julie and Donna sang great together, Terry brought his 12 string and had us all singing 'A Horse with No Name', Charles and Dave sang 'Vamonos', their original song before going away on their South American trip and the band Satin Jack traveled from Boston to make it to the Open Mic and they were awesome! I did the opening and closing set singing and playing guitar with Gordon also on guitar, Phil and Laura on drums! Mark Hinkley joined us some time after and added his great keyboard sound and creativity to the mix!
Thanks to all the musicians, their families and friends who came during those two years to enjoy the music and the ambience at the Long Ridge Tavern!

Women have been drumming together since times immemorial! We have been following the cycles of the Moon, and tuning in to the rhythms of our heart and inner intuition, to bond and celebrate! Now there is a resurgence of this call to life and rhythm and women around the planet are gathering in drum circles and sharing their beat with a renewed sense of purpose!
If you are in the Tri-State area of the planet and would like to start up or participate in women's drum circle gatherings, please contact me. I facilitate drum circles in the US and Argentina and this is a unique opportunity to explore your sound and rhythm in a supportive fun environment.
